Sleepover For Syria

The “Sleepover for Syria” was an interactive experience designed to help students understand the plight of the Syrian people and the humanitarian crisis that exists in that country. While it is impossible to fully grasp what being a refugee means, the goal of the sleepover was to raise awareness of a contemporary human rights issue, appreciate the status of refugees all over the world, and to raise money for relief efforts for Syrian refugee camps. To in some way replicate a refugee’s experience, each student was supplied a tarp that was be connected with four chairs to sleep under. Further, they were asked to bring only a sleeping bag without extensive air mattresses or pillows to use. Each participant raised at least $25 in pledges that were donated to the International Rescue Committee's Syrian Relief Fund.
