Field Trip To Buffalo State and Refugee Center
In late November, our group took a field trip into Buffalo to see a play written by students attending Buffalo State college. Entitled "Dear Me", the play taught students that "paper is more patient than people." Just as the main character expressed his emotions through his writing, we all learned to do this in the workshop following the play as well. Each student wrote a letter to someone or something in their life and many of us were able to share and act out our letters with the rest of the group. The results of the workshop were outstanding. Each student walked out of the experience inspired and having learned something new. Many students enjoyed it so much that they agreed they'd go to see it again. After leaving Buffalo State, the group went to the Christian Charities Refugee Center, where we donated several boxes and bags containing cleaning supplies, school supplies, toiletries, and other necessities. It was a once in a life time experience for many, as we got to sit in on english classes and teach refugees how to use everyday items that they were not accustomed to. It was a great way to interact with the refugees and make a difference.
