Shabana: Women's Education
The Springville Students for Human Rights had the opportunity to attend a teacher's meeting at Erie 1 Boces where Shabana Basij-Rasikh was speaking. Shabana is an Afghan woman who fights for women's' education rights. Upon having to struggle with finding education throughout her life, she has created an organization called SOLA. SOLA is a school for girls located in Afghanistan that tries to encourage more girls to attend school and receive an education; for education is a powerful weapon. Shabana was an inspiration to everyone who had the privilege to attend the meeting. It was an amazing experience for the students and also changed their view points on their daily education in the United States. The students presented Shabana with a $2,000 check for her organization and also gave her a gift. Thanks to everyone who supported Shabana.
